Collection Summary

The Robert Storr Archives include Robert Storr’s personal papers which trace his influential career as a critic; as senior curator of painting and sculpture and decade-long tenure as Director of the Projects program at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA); as the first American Director of Visual Arts of the Venice Biennale; and as Dean of the Yale School of Art, among other leadership positions at major arts institutions. Reflecting the breadth of Storr’s imprint on the art world, the collection also includes the papers related to his independent curatorial projects, scholarly writing, and teaching. Robert Storr is also donating major selections of his library, an intensely comprehensive research collection that spans a range of collecting areas including art history, exhibition histories, theory, criticism and cultural history, literature, and other collecting areas reflecting Robert Storr’s extensive research interests and influential career.
